Destination 4: Still room for improvement

For the most part, SAC teachers especially those alumni teachers, are happy with the expansion of the school since the time they have been there to now. But they still feel that there is room for improvement. As a result, some advice has been given to SAC administration, who they now view to be soul providers for change, to make further enhancements in teacher relationships, parent-teacher relationships and school culture.
As it relates to teacher relationships, upgrades in terms of seminars, conferences and workshops should be made to improve the relationship between members of the teaching staff. Asheka feels that this would increase camaraderie amongst teachers. Dawn feels it's necessary and stated, “there is money in the budget for it”, so it can occur more often than it does.

For parent-teacher relationships,
though most SAC teachers have good relationships with their parents, the relationships can be enhanced. Mr. Todd, with his old school tactics, feels that letters are the best way to do this. These letters would inform the parents of exactly what their children are doing, when they are doing it and how they are doing it. Ms. Culmer, with her primary school background, has a different initiative. She feels that a meet and greet day for parents before progress report with the teachers similar to what is done in the primary school should be implemented. These may help with improving parental support in the school.

Lastly, as it relates to school culture, to boost school pride and ensure that the students understand the dynasty that they are a part of many steps can be taken. Mr. Todd feels that appreciating both staff and students throughout the year with different initiatives and ensuring that the new students know the legacy of the school they are going to is imperative. He said that they one way they can do this by making “CDs that are played during orientation or on their first day, that tell them about the history of SAC and the great school they are at”.  Additionally, listening more to the concerns of the students and bringing in some more SAC paraphernalia, as Ms. Culmer said, seems to be some of the plausible ways of ensuring that the campus remains dynamic. Ms. Culmer stated, that she has “never seen the parking lot empty because it’s hot and students want stand underneath the tree [during a pep rally…the] parking lot would be so full that cars can’t even come in that parking lot and before 2 o’clock by 8th period, everybody already outside and hype”.  So ensuring this continuation of school culture is a must.
